'In Flanders Fields' war photography presentation
During this presentation on war photography I will take you on a long march through Flanders Fields. Over a two year period I documented the war sites and landscapes in Flanders Fields from both an aesthetic and a historical perspective. My area stretched from Nieuwport to Koksijde, stopping off at Veurne, Diksmuide, Ieper (Ypres) and Poperinge, and through the Heuvelland all the way to the northern French border at Wervicq and Comines.
In this presentation on war photography I will not only discuss the practical side of this project but will also illustrate the difficulties and challenges I had to cope with. Furthermore I will explain how certain images came about and provide you with technical information and give photography tips on depth of field, composition, light or shadow and choosing the right perspective.
Finally, I will review some of the war related locations and provide you with tips and tricks. Through a series of inspiring images you will not only learn to see how I approached these delicate subjects, but also get inspired to try out this kind of photography yourself.
Mind you, this presentation is not a history class, but focuses on the photographical aspect of the WW I commemoration.
